Through offices across Europe, North and South America and Asia, CACEIS offers a broad range of services covering execution, clearing, forex, securities lending, custody, depositary and fund administration, fund distribution support, middle office outsourcing and issuer services.

We are actively recruiting for a Financial Lawyer, based in Montreal, Canada to cover Canadian and transversal legal services for common-law countries.

Key Roles & responsibilities:

  • Legal support to the Canadian business (Québec-based): 

    -  Advise on commercial, regulatory and corporate matters.

    -  Review, draft and negotiate agreements with internal clients and

    -  Support local governance and corporate filings

  • Support to designated common-law jurisdictions (e.g., Malaysia, United States, Jersey):

    - Review and negotiate contracts governed by common-law frameworks.

    - Coordinate with external counsel and internal stakeholders in those jurisdictions.

    - Provide clear guidance on cross-border risk, documentation requirements and internal approval processes.
      

  • Group-level legal coordination:

    - Assist in ad hoc group/global projects.

    - Support global policy rollouts, regulatory projects and internal governance initiatives.

    - Act as a point of contact for colleagues in other branches and subsidiaries.

     

  • Risk and regulatory support:

    - Identify legal and regulatory risks relevant to the business and escalate appropriately.

    - Provide practical, business-oriented solutions in a complex, multi-jurisdictional environment.

Minimal education level

Bachelor Degree / BSc Degree or equivalent

Academic qualification / Speciality

  • Qualified lawyer in Canada (Québec bar or common-law bar; dual qualification an asset).

Level of minimal experience

6-10 years

Experience

  • 4–7 years’ post-qualification experience in commercial, regulatory or financial services work.

Required skills

Must have skills:

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills in both English and French.
  • Experience working across multiple jurisdictions or with cross-border matters.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver clear, pragmatic advice.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating within a wider international legal team.
  • Excellent communication skills in both French and English.
